Combined, our results indicate that germacrone suppresses gastric cancer cell proliferation by inhibiting HBXIP, and this process is related to G0/G1-phase arrest and apoptosis.Rift Valley fever (RVF) and West Nile fever (WNF) are re-emerging mosquito-borne zoonotic diseases that cause public health and economic crises. Ethiopia shares borders with South Sudan and Kenya, where these diseases are often documented. The free movement of animals and humans across these borders expects to increase the spread of these diseases. The current study was conducted to assess the occurrence of these diseases in the Gambella region of Ethiopia.
We collected a total of 368 cattle serum samples from the Lare district on the border of South Sudan and measured the presence of IgG antibody against RVF and WNF virus infections using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA).
The prevalence of anti-RVF virus IgG antibody was 7.6% (95% CI 5.3-10.82%), while that of anti-WNF virus IgG antibody was 5.4% (95% CI 3.52-8.29%). In this study higher seroprevalence of IgG antibodies to RVF virus infection was observed comparing to the WNF virus in cattle. There was no significant association between the prevalence and the cattle age, sex or sampled locations.
The detection of IgG antibody to RVF and WNF virus infections in the Gambella region warrants further study of active case findings and the dynamics of transmission.

In the discussion, we will give some tricks beyond the known rules how to correctly interpret a high pressure distal colostogram, how to identify the level of a recto-urinary fistula, and how to accurately plan the surgical approach.We present a case of a 6-month-old male infant with an anorectal malformation (ARM) who underwent colostomy as a newborn, and now presents for definitive repair. A colostogram is shown to identify the malformation and to help plan for the ideal surgical approach. The case is presented with a focus on surgical strategies for management of ARM in the male infant, with questions for the readers posed in a quiz format.Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract. Intestinal occlusion due to MD is a commonly observed consequence of intussusception or volvulus. Here, we report a case of an 11-year-old boy who presented to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain, bilious vomiting, and abdominal rebound tenderness. Computed tomography scan concluded a diagnosis of intestinal occlusion with no apparent cause. The patient was submitted to diagnostic laparoscopy, and mechanical occlusion by the permeable Meckel with double base was identified. A diverticulectomy by staplers was performed, and occlusion was alleviated. MD is a rare disease (for only 0.3-2.9% of the general population), and only 4.2 to 9% of patients diagnosed with MD have associated complications. MD can be a large base or a narrow base, with a mesodiverticular band but the diverticulum is usually a blind recess. In our case, the tube connected two intestinal segments. To the best of our knowledge, we have reported the first case of an MD-like permeable tube with a double basis.This study aimed to examine the choroidal thickness profiles in visually normal Australian Indigenous children, given the important role of the choroid in refractive error and a range of ocular diseases.
Choroidal thickness was assessed across the central 5 mm macular region using enhanced depth imaging spectral domain optical coherence tomography, in 250 children enrolled in an elementary school and a secondary school in rural Queensland, Australia. One hundred (40%) of these children identified as Indigenous Australians.
The subfoveal choroid was significantly thicker in Indigenous children (mean 369 ± 75 ?m), compared to non-Indigenous children (355 ± 73 ?m; = 0.03). Subfoveal choroidal thickness was also significantly associated with age (β = +7.6, r= 0.105, = 0.003), and axial length (β = -19.9, r= 0.030, &lt; 0.001). A significantly thicker choroid in Indigenous children was also found in analyses across the central 5 mm macular region (= 0.008). A significant interaction between Indigenous status and meridian was observed (= 0.007) with the largest differences between Indigenous and non-Indigenous children being in the nasal and inferonasal meridians.
This study establishes the normative characteristics of macular choroidal thickness in Indigenous Australian children and demonstrates a significantly thicker choroid compared to non-Indigenous children from the same geographic region. These results may have implications for our understanding of factors predisposing or protecting Australian Indigenous people from a range of conditions associated with choroidal thickness.
